Jacob Christian of Cicero Spends Spring Break Helping Hungry and Homeless Adults in Impoverished San Francisco Community

2017 Apr 3

The College of Saint Rose is proud that Jacob Christian of Cicero, New York, is one of seven students who spent an Alternative Spring Break helping feed and shelter thousands of hungry and homeless adults in the impoverished Tenderloin district of San Francisco.

Jacob and the six other students worked with the GLIDE church's service-learning program helping in the church's soup kitchen. GLIDE feeds about 2,000-3,000 hungry or homeless people each week. The experience gave the students a close look at poverty, as did a tour of the Tenderloin district with a local resident and community advocate and attending programs run by those who work with the poor.

The Saint Rose team also spent time assisting Tenderloin Safe Passage, a community of neighborhood groups, parents, youth-serving agencies and schools dedicated to making the streets of the Tenderloin neighborhood a safer place for all.

The students departed Albany Saturday, March 4, and returned Friday, March 10.

Thank you, Jacob!
